I am currently completing an economic history of the British Columbia salmon industry concentrating on the period from 1900 to 1930, an era in which the industry underwent major changes, acquiring many of its current characteristics. This book-length manuscript focuses on the major themes of development and change in this period, including the allocation of property rights, the development of institutions and procedures for administration and management, the untangling of federal and provincial claims, changes in the industrial structure, technical changes in fishing and processing, the relationships between participant groups, the development of markets and products, the negotiation of an acceptable treaty with the United States, and the impact of increasing knowledge of the resource. I have worked in the industry both in the private and public sectors, spending a year as a government economist.
