Activities

The primary
aims of my work is to investigate the biological mechanisms which contribute to
the carbon export to the deep ocean. I am interested in how anthropocentric
stressors (including ocean acidification, global warming and pollutants) can
interfere with the marine ecosystem and in turn the oceanic biogeochemical carbon
cycle. To achieve this, I use a multidisciplinary
approach combining observations, laboratory and in situ experiments.

Sea regions of study
Mediterranean Sea - Eastern Basin
Arctic Ocean
Southern Ocean
Skills
I have large experience on field work on research vessel  and use of biological/oceanographic equipment (i.e. moored sediment traps, floating traps, Multi-stratified plankton net). I developed skills in running zooplankton incubation experiment where organisms are expose to pollutants (i.e. micro and nanoplastic) and other climatic stressors (i.e. pH, T, S). In the lab I have experience with optical analyses (i.e. SEM, ZOOSCAN) and spectroscopy (i.e. FTIR) as well as bio-geochemistry  technique to analyses particulate element of the water column
