My
background includes a BS in Oceanography with a minor in Marine Biology from
the University of Washington along with a Master’s equivalence in experience. During
my time in UW’s Department of Oceanography, I gained exposure to the
applications of a wide variety of continuous and discrete analytical chemistry
instrumentation for sampling marine environments.

I have continued to cultivate and apply these skills in my 4 years of postgraduate
professional oceanographic research experience. In my current role of lead research
technician, I work alongside Drs. Alex Gagnon and Julian Sachs in the UW School
of Oceanography on a revolutionary ocean acidification project on a South
Pacific coral atoll. My prior research efforts focused on developing proxies
for environmental change through culturing and analyzing the skeletal
geochemistry of the Orange Cup Coral (B. elegans), a species local to
the Salish Sea, using ICP-MS techniques. These experiences have collectively
allowed me to master best practices for monitoring and manipulating the chemistry
in seawater as it pertains to the impacts of human society on water quality.
Sea regions of study

Skills
I have experience operating and troubleshooting alkalinity titrators, spectrophotometric pH meters, CTDs, oxygen optodes/titrators, and coulometers. I am also well-versed in conducting quality assurance and quality control analyses on environmental data through numerical and statistical modeling (e.g. MATLAB, R, ArcGIS, and Microsoft Office suite).
