Primary research is shelf and shelf edge physical oceanography of the northeast coast of New Zealand, with particular reference to physical exchange mechanisms and organism transfer. Other area is physics/primary production interaction in shelf sea and coastal environments, presently focusing on the effects of turbulence in controlling the growth and distribution of phytoplankton. Also, lecturer in estuarine, coastal, and shelf oceanography.
