Activities
Research is managed by six internationally renowned research groups: Biodiversity and Ecological Processes; Connective Tissue Biology; Genetics; Microbiology; Molecular Cell Biology and Neuroscience.
The international reputation of the School’s research is reflected in the revenue that it attracts. In 2005/2006 the School was awarded £9.3 million from charities such as the Wellcome Trust, the Arthritis Research Campaign and Cancer Research UK, as well as the science research councils and many industrial sponsors.
Biological research presents unparalleled opportunities and challenges for basic science and its exploitation to benefit health and the environment. Postgraduate training is available through the traditional three year or four year routes and is undertaken within one of the School’s key research areas.
The recent appointment of Nobel Laureate Professor Dr Robert Huber provides the School with a new opportunity to enhance its strategically focussed interdisciplinary research activities, strengthening further our existing links with many of the schools at Cardiff University.
